About The Maurer Story
Maurer Heating is a small family owned and operated local business. We are a direct successor of the Kalamazoo Stove Company, which was founded in 1935 by Mr. John Weersing. John, along with sons Merrill and Nelson, developed one of the area’s leading heating companies in the mid 40’s, mainly installing and servicing wood and coal furnaces. They became an independent Lennox dealer in 1946 and Merrill became the sole owner in 1953. Leon Maurer began working for Merrill in 1948 as an installer, and his wife Ketha, joined the company in the early 1960s as the bookkeeper. In 1972, they bought the business and at that time renamed it to Maurer Heating and Cooling. Their son David joined the company as a sheet metal apprentice and serviceman and daughter Pam also started working in the office. Following in his father’s footsteps, David also became an installer and the in 1983, David and his wife Dianna bought the business. In keeping this a family run business, son Kevin, at a young age, started working as a shop hand. He followed in his father and grandfathers lead and became a metal apprentice, a pipe fitter, a service technician and an installer. After completing his degrees in Business and HVAC, Kevin turned to sales then worked with David on the day-to-day operations of the business. In 2016, Kevin took over the business and it continues to grow and expand all while keeping the business foundation of family owned and customer service at the forefront. (edited)
